Internal memo ยท last 30 days
Someone on this team had a lot of conversations with an AI.
150,292 messages. 219.5 million tokens. Numbers that size stop meaning anything past a few million โ so here's the same month, translated into things a human can actually picture.

How we got these numbers
Every comparison here is back-of-the-napkin, on purpose โ the point is intuition, not a peer-reviewed estimate.
- Tokens โ words: ~0.75 words per token, the standard approximation for English (it's also the ratio implied by the original stats screenshot's own "2131ร Harry Potter" line).
- Book word counts are commonly-cited approximations: Harry Potter (all 7) โ 1.08M words, War and Peace โ 587K, Encyclopaedia Britannica โ 44M, an average novel โ 90K.
- Paper stack: ~400 words per printed page, ~10,000 sheets per meter of standard copy paper.
- Dollar figures use Anthropic's published Claude Opus 4.8 API pricing โ $5 per million input tokens, $25 per million output tokens (the model this account used most). The floor assumes every token was the cheapest category; the ceiling assumes every token was the priciest. Real usage is a mix of both, so the true pay-per-token number sits somewhere in between โ this isn't a bill, it's a scale reference.
- Claude Code runs on a flat-rate subscription, not pay-per-token. Nobody was actually charged $0โ5,487 for this โ that's the whole point of the last line on the receipt.
